Paal Paniyaram
Paal paniyaram is a traditional Chettinad cuisine. It is served on most of their special occasions or in side with dinner. The fried dumplings are soaked in sweetened coconut milk tastes delicious. Here is the simple and easy recipe for making paal paniyaram.

  1. Raw rice- 1/4 cup
  2. Urad dal- 1/4 cup
  3. Salt-a pinch
  4. Oil-for deep frying
  5. Coconut Milk-1 liter
  6. Sugar-1 cup
  7. Cardamom powder- 1/4 tsp
  8. Fried nuts-1 tbsp
  9. Fried coconut pieces-1 tsp
  • Wash and soak raw rice and urad dal in water for 4 hours.
  • Drain the water and add in to a blend.
  • Blend in to thick paste by adding enough little water.
  • Ferment he batter for about 4 hours or overnight.
  • Mix it with a pinch of salt.
  • Now heat a pan with oil.
  • Drop small balls of batter in to hot oil by using a small spoon.
  • Fry on medium flame until the balls turns nice golden.Drain in to paper towels and keep aside.
  • Boil milk in a heavy bottom pan.
  • When it boils add sugar and mix well. Stir cook the milk until it reduces to its half the quantity and slightly thickens.
  • Switch off the flame; Add cardamom powder and fried balls.
  • Mix well by adding fried nuts and coconut pieces.
  • Serve warm or chilled and enjoy!!!
