Parippu Curry
Parippu Curry (dal curry) is a typical Kerala dish served in side with steamed rice. It is one of the main dish in Onam Sadya menu. Try this quick and simple dal curry and you can serve them in side with parathas also.
Ingredients:- Moong Dal (cherupayar parippu)- 1/2 cup
- Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
- Salt-to taste
- Grated coconut- 1/3 cup
- Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Shallots-3 small
- Green chilly-2
- Ingredients For Seasoning:
- Coconut oil-1 1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds-1 tsp
- Thinly chopped shallots-1 tbsp
- Curry leaves-2 spring
- Dry red chilly-2
Preparation:
- Wash and rinse moong dal for 3 to 4 times.
- Add it in to a pressure cooker along with salt, turmeric powder and 1 1/2 cups of water.
- Pressure cooks it on high flame for about 5-6 whistles.
- Open the lid after releases the pressure by itself.
- Meanwhile in a blender add grated coconut, cumin seeds, green chilly, shallots and little water..
- Grind in to a smooth paste.
- Mix the cooked dal well and its almost mashed well.
- Add coconut paste in to it and heat again for 5-6 minutes on low flame.
- After that do seasoning of the curry.
- Heat a small kadai with coconut oil; splutter mustard seeds.
- Add shallots and fry until nice golden.
- Add dry red chilly and curry leaves.
- Pour it over the curry and mix well before serving.
