Alleppey Style Red Fish Curry


Most of the typical Kerala meal is incomplete without a fish curry. Alleppey (coastel region in Kerala); the home of backwaters is popular for it's Seafood recipes. The spicy red fish curry is their traditional local preparation. Try it out and spice up your meal!.


Ingredients:
  1. Fish pieces- 1/4 kg (use any large fish)
  2. Coconut oil-3 tbsp
  3. Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  4. Thinly chopped shallots-1/4 cup
  5. Ginger garlic chopped-1 tbsp
  6. Green chilly slit-2 nos
  7. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  8. Kashmiri red chilly powder-2 tbsp
  9. Fennel powder- 1/4 tsp
  10. Fenugreek powder-1/4 tsp
  11. Crushed pepper-1/4 tsp 
  12. Salt-to taste
  13. Gambodge(kudampuli)-3 no's
  14. Tomato-1 large
  15. Curry leaves-2 springs
Preparation:
  • Heat oil in  kadai (clay pot) splutter mustard seeds; add ginger garlic shopped and shallots.
  • Saute for 3 minutes and add all the powders in low flame and mix well.
  • Add 2 cups of water, toamto cut in to four pieces, green chilly slit, soaked gambodge and curry leaves.
  • Allow to boil the curry on medium flame for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Then add the fish pieces and salt.
  • Cook for another 8-10 minutes until the fish pieces get cooked well and oil floats on top of the curry.
  • Serve in side with steamed rice and enjoy the great taste.
Note:The curry tastes better after one day of cooking!!!! So keep some for the next day😊
