Drumstick- Coconut Milk Curry

The sensitive pod drumsticks are highly nutritive and available all the year-round. The drumstick trees leaves and flowers are also edible and rich with calcium and iron. Check out my collection of old Drumstick recipes. Here is another simple and easy drumstick curry with coconut milk ; which is a great combo with steamed rice.
  1. Drumstick- 1/2 kg
  2. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  3. Chilly powder-1 tsp
  4. Tomato-2 small
  5. Green chilly slit-2
  6. Grated coconut- 1/2 cup
  7. Salt-to taste
Ingredients For Seasoning:
  1. Coconut oil-1 1/2 tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
  4. Thinly chopped shallots-1 tbsp
  5. Dry red chilly-2 nos
  6. Hing- a pinch
  7. Curry leaves-2 spring
  • Wash and peel the skin of drumsticks; cut them in to two inch length pieces.
  • Add it in to a cooking pot along with turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt, chopped tomatoes, green chilly and 2 cups of water,
  • Cook it for about 15-20 minutes or until the drumsticks get cooked.
  • Meanwhile blend the grated coconuts in a blender by adding enough water (around 1/4 cup or more) to a smooth paste.
  • Add it in to the cooked drumsticks and cook for another few minutes until the curry starts boiling.
  • Switch off the flame and do seasoning on top.
  • Heat oil in a pan; splutter mustard seeds followed by cumin seeds.
  • Add chopped shallots and saute until golden.
  • Add dry red chilly and curry leaves.
  • Switch off the flame by adding hing.
  • Spread the seasoning over the curry and mix well before serving.
