Chana Chilli Masala

Chana chilli masala is a delicious spicy and mildly sweet side dish for your Roti or rice. The cooked chick peas are coated with finger licking chilli onion gravy. Add green chilly and chilly sauce according to your spice tolerance. But it tastes great when it's spicy.
  1. Chana/ white chick pea- 1 cup
  2. Oil-2 tbsp
  3. Sugar- 1/2 tsp
  4. Thinly chopped ginger-1 tbsp
  5. Thinly chopped garlic-1 tbsp
  6. Thinly chopped green chilly-2 tbsp
  7. Thinly chopped onion-2 large
  8. Thinly chopped coriander leaves-2 tbsp
  9. Curry leaves-4 springs
  10. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  11. Chilly powder- 1 tsp
  12. Coriander powder-1 tsp
  13. Tomato puree- of two large tomatoes
  14. Tomato sauce- 1/4 cup
  15. Soy sauce-1 tsp
  16. Chilli sauce-2 tbsp
  17. Salt-to taste
  • Wash and soak chana in water for overnight.
  • Drain it and cook in pressure cooker by adding enough water and salt for few whistles until nicely cooked.
  • Open the lid after releases the pressure by itself.
  • Dry the water content in it by open heating.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan; when it is hot add sugar and allow to brown.
  • Add ginger, garlic and green chilly.
  • Saute for a minute until fragrant.
  • Add thinly chopped onions and saute until golden in color.
  • Add all the powders and mix well.
  • Add curry leaves and tomato puree; Cook on medium-low flame until the gravy thickens.
  • Add cooked chick peas, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, salt and soy sauce.
  • Cook for another 5 minutes until the gravy get's thickly coated with the chick peas.
  • Sprinkle coriander leaves on top; mix well and switch off the flame.
  • Serve hot in side with paratha and enjoy!!!
