Manglore Buns / Banana Poori


Manglore buns or sweet banana poori is an authentic recipe from Manglore in Karnataka.The mildly sweet buns(or  poori)   has a bun texture as well as poori; hence it's difficult to call them bun or poori itself😃. The preparations are quite simple but need some resting time for the dough. Consume it for your breakfast or as a snack along with some coconut chutney.

Ingredients:
  1. Flour (maida)-1 1/2 cup
  2. Banana- 1 large
  3. Sugar-3 tbsp
  4. Salt-to tase
  5. Curd-2 tbsp
  6. Baking soda-a pinch
  7. Crushed cumin-1 tsp
  8. Melted ghee/ oil-1 tbsp
  9. Oil-for deep frying
Preparation:
  • In a mixing bowl; add sugar and banana pieces; mix them well without any lumps of banana in it (or you can puree them in a blender).
  • Now add curd, salt, baking soda and ghee; mix well.
  • Add flour and cumin crushed; knead well and make a smooth dough out of it (if necessary add more curd or flour).
  • Apply little ghee on top of the dough; cover the dough with a moist kitchen towel and let it rest for 4-6 hours in a warm place. (or overnight)
  • After that divide the dough in to small bowls and roll each ball in to a poori size by dusting with little flour on a rolling surface.
  • Deep fry the poori's in hot oil on medium flame until nice golden.
  • Drain in to paper towels and serve warm with coconut chutney!!
Note: You can use wheat flour instead of APF or use half of APF and half wheat flour.
