Mysore Bonda / Ulundu Bonda



Mysore bonda is a popular crispy tea time snack using lentils and rice flour batter.It is quite similar to uzunnu vada and the taste differs by the addition of coconut pieces in mysore bonda. Serve it along with coconut chutney and nourish your taste buds!!


Ingredients:
  1. Urad dal- 1/2 cup
  2. Rice powder-1  1/2 tbsp
  3. Thinly chopped ginger-1 tsp
  4. Thinly chopped green chilly-1 tsp
  5. Thinly chopped coconut pieces-3 tbsp
  6. Thinly chopped curry leaves- 1 spring
  7. Pepper powder-1 tsp
  8. Hing (kayam/asafoetida)- a pinch
  9. Salt-to taste
  10. Oil-for deep frying
Preparation:
  • Wash and soak urad dal in water for overnight (6-8 hours).
  • Drain it and add in to a wet grinder or blender (add only one or two tablespoons of water to grind).
  • Make a smooth paste out of it.
  • In a bowl; mix the dal paste with rice powder, ginger, green chilly, pepper powder, salt, curry leaves and hing.
  • Heat oil in a deep kadai.
  • Wet your hands with water (so that you can easily able to make dumplings with the batter) .
  • Take a small ball shaped batter and gently drop in to the hot oil.
  • Fry all the bonda's until nice golden on medium flame. (wet your palm before making each batch of balls)
  • Drain from oil and serve warm with coconut chutney!!
