Amla Candy
The healthy and delicious way of preserving amla is making candy out of it. You can make it sweet or sour. Now a days; it has great demand in the market also. Making amla candy is super easy and simple process.
Ingredients:
- Amla / nellikka / Gooseberry - 250 gm
- Sugar-1 cup
- Jaggery grated-1 cup (or brown sugar)
- Cardamom-2 numbers
- Powdered Sugar-1 tbsp
- Boil water (enough to cook amla) in a pan; add washed amla to the boiling water and cook for few minutes (3-4 minutes) until they changed its color to transparent and just starts crackling the sides.
- Switch off the flame and drain it.
- After cools down; cut them in to segments (discard the seeds and; separate the petals like sections).
- In a pan add; sugar, jaggery and 1 cup of water; boil for 5 minutes.
- Add amla pieces and cardamom crushed in to it.
- Boil it until the syrup gets sticky in hand (one string consistency).
- Strain it completely from the syrup (use this syrup for making any other sweet dish; means don't throw it).
- Arrange the strained amla pieces on a flat plate and dry it under hot sunshine.
- Within two days; they completely get dried (if there is less sunshine; it will take 3 to 4 days).
- Sprinkle powdered sugar on top and store it in an air-tight container for long use.
Note:
You can use only sugar or or only jaggery for making this candy.
