Thepla is an authentic Gujarati healthy flat bread recipe. It is a lightly spiced paratha using wheat flour, methi leaves and some other spices.
  1. Wheat four-1 1/2 cup +dusting
  2. Methi leaves - 1/2 cup (dried or fresh)
  3. Ginger thinly minced-1 tsp
  4. Green chilly thinly minced-1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  6. Chilly powder- 1/2 tsp
  7. Cumin powder- 1/2 tsp
  8. Coriander powder- 3/4 tsp
  9. Salt-to taste
  10. Oil/ghee-1 tbsp
  11. Curd / yogurt- 1/4 cup (or required to knead the smooth dough)/ or use water for kneading
  12. Oil/ghee- little for cooking
  • In a large bowl; Mix wheat flour with methi leaves, ginger, green chilly, 1 tbsp of ghee and all the powders.
  • Add curd little by little (or water) and make a smooth dough.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • After that divide the dough in to medium sized equal balls (almost 7-8 balls).
  • Using a rolling pin and by dusting flour roll the balls in to paratha shapes (diameter of thepla should be more thicker than normal paratha).
  • Now heat a tawa with in medium flame and when it is hot cook the thepla until done.
  • Add little oil (or ghee) on both sides.
  • Serve them hot with a cup of tea and in side with curd or pickle!!!!
