Onion Pakoda / Ulli Vada


Ulli vada/ onion pakoda is  an all time favorite popular tea time snack in India. It’s found in most of the rustic tea shops. The crispy onion fritters are quick easy to make and a perfect accompaniment with a cup of tea. Here is the easy recipe of perfect crispy and delicious bites.
Ingredients:
  1. Onion sliced- 2 large
  2. Thinly chopped ginger-1 tbsp
  3. Thinly chopped green chilly-2 nos
  4. Thinly chopped curry leaves-1 spring
  5. Thinly chopped coriander leaves-1 tbsp
  6. Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  7. Chilly powder-1 tsp
  8. Salt-to taste (little)
  9. Rice flour-2 tbsp
  10. Gram flour / besan flour- 3 tbsp
Preparation:
  • Mix onion sliced with ginger chopped, green chilly, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt.
  • Mix well with hands for a minute.
  • Keep covered for 15 minutes (to ooze out the water content in it).
  • Now mix it with besan flour, rice flour and coriander leaves chopped.
  • Mix well; no need to add water to make a sticky dough as the onion contains water itself. If necessary add little water. (almost 1 tbsp of water)
  • Heat oil in a pan; add small parts of onion mix in to oil.
  • Fry on medium flame until nice golden in color.
  • Drain in to paper towels and serve hot along with a cup of tea.
