Methi Chicken Curry

Methi chicken curry or murgh methi is a curry prepared with chicken and methi (fenugreek) leaves. It is one of the most popular dishes from Hyderabad. Methi leaves give a nice taste to most of the curries.  The combination of chicken with methi is great. The aroma and taste of methi leaves makes the curry finger licking.
  1. Chicken- ½ kg
  2. Oil-2 tbsp
  3. Oinion-2 nos
  4. Ginger garlic paste-1 tbsp
  5. Tomato- 2 nos
  6. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  7. Kashmiri chilly powder-2 tsp (or use 1 tsp normal chilly powder)
  8. Coriander powder- 1 ½ tsp
  9. Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  10. Salt- to taste
  11. Methi leaves (fresh or dried) – ½ cup
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan; sauté onions until transparent.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and sauté until raw smell goes off.
  • Add chopped tomato pieces and sauté until mashed well.
  • Add Turmeric all the powders one by one after mixing well in each addition.
  • Add chicken pieces and salt.
  • Cook covered for 15 minutes (stir occasionally).
  • Add ¼ cup of boiling water in to it and cook for another 10minutes until oil floats on top.
  • Add methi leaves in to the curry.
  • Mix well for a minute and switch off the flame.
  • Serve hot with the choice of your roti.
