Kerala Squid Curry

Squid curry is an authentic Kerala cuisine among sea foods. This curry goes well with steamed rice as well as tapioca, paratha, roti etc. Here is the recipe preparation of simple and tasty spicy squid/koonthal  curry. 
  1. Squid-500gms
  2. Coconut oil- 2 tbsp
  3. Onion-1 sliced
  4. Ginger garlic paste-1 tbsp
  5. Green chilly-1
  6. Tomato- 2 sliced
  7. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  8. Chilly powder-1 tsp
  9. Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  10. Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  11. Salt-to taste
  12. Curry leaves-2 spring
  13. Coriander leaves chopped-  1 ½ tbsp
  • Cut the cleaned squid in to small pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan; saute onion until transparent and golden in color.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and green chilly.
  • Saute for a minute until raw smell goes off.
  • Add all the powders in low flame by mixing well in each addition.
  • Add tomato pieces and sauté well until all the tomato pieces are mashed well.
  • Add squid pieces and salt.
  • Add ¼ cup of hot water in to it.
  • Cook covered for 15-20 minutes until squid pieces are tender and cooked well.
  • Open cooks it until gravy start thickens.
  • Add curry leaves and coriander leaves chopped.
  • Switch off the flame and Serve hot with steamed rice, paratha or any choice of your roti.
Note: You can add little tamarind juice; if you want more sourness for the curry and then reduce the amount of tomato in to one.
