Kakka Ularthiyathu / Clams Dry Roast

 Clams/kakka/Mussels is a delicious seafood variety that makes fantastic recipes with great taste.Here is the recipe of clams dry roast with traditional Kerala approach.
Ingredients for Marinating:
  1. Mussel Cleaned- 250gm
  2. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  3. Chilly powder-1tsp
  4. Pepper powder-1tsp
  5. Salt-to taste
  6. Oil-for frying
Other Ingredients:
  1. Onion-2 nos
  2. Tomato-1
  3. Ginger crushed-1tsp
  4. Garlic crushed-1tsp
  5. Green chilly slit-2 nos
  6. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  7. Chilly powder-1tsp
  8. Coriander powder-1tsp
  9. Fish masala- ½ tsp
  10. Salt-to taste
  11. Carrots chopped-1tbsp
  12. Coconut grated-1tbsp
  13. Capsicum chopped thinly-1tbsp
  14. Coriander leaves chopped-few
Preparation:
  • Marinate the cleaned clams with ingredients under marination except oil.
  • Shallow fry it in oil until cooked.
  • Take in to paper towels.Keep aside.
  • In the remaining oil (remove excess amount of oil if any) sauté onions until golden in color.
  • Add ginger, garlic and green chilly. Saute for a minute.
  • Add all the powders one by one in low flame by mixing well in each addition.
  • Add chopped tomato and sauté until mashed well.
  • Add fried clams, chopped carrots, coconut grated and capsicum.
  • Mix well and cook for another 10-15 minutes until dried and cooked well.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
