Fish Mappas

Fish mappas is a Kerala traditional mildly spiced rich curry that goes well with steamed rice. Appam is also a combination with this curry.
  1. King fish-6 pieces
  2. Coconut oil-1 tbsp
  3. Cardamom-3 nos
  4. Clove-3 nos
  5. Cinnamon-1 small stick
  6. Onion-1 sliced
  7. Tomato-1 sliced
  8. Ginger crushed-1 1/4 tsp
  9. Garlic crushed-3/4 tsp
  10. Green chilly slit- nos
  11. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  12. Chilly powder-1 tsp
  13. Coriander powder-1 1/2 TSP
  14. Pepper powder- 3/4 tsp
  15. Salt-to taste
  16. Vinegar-1/2 tsp
  17. Curry leaves-2 springs
  18. Coconut milk-2 cups
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cardamom, clove and cinnamon,
  • Add onion sliced and saute until transparent.
  • Add ginger, garlic and green chilly. Saute for a minute.
  • Add sliced tomato and saute until mashed well.
  • Add all the powders one by one after mixing well in each addition.
  • Add coconut milk and mix well.
  • Cook for about 10-15 minutes; stir well occasionally to prevent the separation of coconut milk.
  • Add fish pieces and cook for another 7-8 minutes or until the fish pieces are cooked well.
  • Check for salt and add vinegar.
  • Switch off the flame and add curry leaves.
  • Allow the curry to sit for 15 minutes and serve.
