Vendakka Moru Curry / Okra Buttermilk Curry

Moru (butter milk) curry is an authentic Kerala curry choice for a quick meal. It is one of the simplest and tastiest curry choice. Okra gives a wonderful combination with curd.Give a try for the simple curry preparation.

  1. Curd-1cup
  2. Okra / vendakka-  5 nos
  3. Oil-1tsp
  4. Green chilly-1
For grinding:
  1. Coconut grated-2tbsp
  2. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  3. Cumin seeds- a pinch
  4. Shallots-2 nos
To temper:
  1. Oil-1tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds-1tsp
  3. Cumin seeds- ¼ tsp
  4. Fenugreek- ¼ tsp
  5. Hing-a pinch
  6. Curry leaves-1 spring
  7. Coriander leaves-few
  1. Cut okra in to small one inch sized pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, roast okra with little salt and green chilly until slightly golden in color and gets cooked.
  3. Grind coconut with other grinding ingredients in to a smooth paste by adding little water.
  4. Beat curd in to smooth in a blender.
  5. add the coconut paste and beaten curd in to okra (if necessary add little water).
  6. Cook in a low flame for few seconds, stir well, don’t allow to boil.
  7. Switch off the flame and season it with the ingredients under seasoning.
