Semiya Upma / Vermicelli Upma

Vermicelli/semiya  upma is a popular South Indian breakfast recipe. It’s almost like the same preparation of semolina upma; but with little difference. Include your choice of vegetables for great taste. Here is the recipe of simple and quick tasty vermicelli upma recipe.

  1. Vermicelli-2cup
  2. Oil-1tbsp
  3. Mustard seeds-1tsp
  4. Curry leaves-2spring
  5. Mixed vegetables chopped- ¼ cup
  6. Onion thinly sliced-1
  7. Tomato -1
  8. Green chilli slitted-2
  9. Ginger finely chopped-1tbsp
  10. Salt-to taste
  11. Coriander leaves-few
  • Cook vermicelli in enough more water and salt.
  • Cook it until just become soft not too much; drain it and pour running cold water over it for few seconds. Keep aside to drain completely.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add curry leaves, dry red chilly, green chilly, chopped ginger and onions.
  • Sauté for a minute until onion becomes transparent.
  • Add tomato pieces and sauté until mashed well.
  • Add vegetables and salt; Sauté for 5 minutes until they get cooked.
  • Add drained vermicelli in to it and give a nice mix without breaking or without any lumps in it.
  • Cook for a minute and switch off the flame.
  • Sprinkle coriander leaves on top and serve hot with some chutney or pickle.
