Puttu Varavu / Beef puttu
Puttu is a traditional Kerala breakfast recipe made with
rice flour and coconut. Usually it is served along with a curry, pappad or
banana. Beef curry is a an excellent combination for puttu. Here is another recipe of puttu with spicy and
delicious beef dry masala. It’s another
variation of irachi puttu.
Ingredient:- Beef cubed- ¼ kg
- Oil-1tbsp
- Cumin seeds- ¼ tsp
- Dry red chilly-1
- Onion-1
- Ginger garlic green chilly paste-1tbsp
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
- Chilly powder-1/2 tsp
- Pepper powder-1tsp
- Coriander powder-1tsp
- Garma masala- ½ tsp
- Salt- to taste
- Curry leaves -2springs
- Coriander leaves chopped-few
- Puttu – 6 pieces
Preparation:
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter cumin seeds.
- Add dry red chilly and onions; sauté until transparent.
- Add ginger garlic green chilly paste and sauté until raw smell goes off..
- Add all the powders one by one after mixing well in each addition.
- Add cubed beef pieces with little water (enough to cook the beef).
- Pressure cooks it until the beef pieces get cooked nicely.
- Open it after releasing the pressure and allow drying the excess water in it until thick gravy is formed.
- Mince the puttu pieces well and mix it with the beef gravy.
- Mix well for a minute until all the rice scraps completely coated with beef masala, but with a dry texture.
- Add in to serving plates; sprinkle coriander leaves and finely chopped onions on top.
