Chilly Prawns


Prawns are quick to cook and great for curries, soups and pasta; hence the ultimate fast food.I listed few recipes using prawns in my Recipe Book ; They are Prawns coconut roast, Prawns masala and Dry Prawns Drumstick Curry. Here is the recipe of chilly prawns with traditional Kerala approach.

Ingredients for marinating:
  1. Prawns- ½ kg
  2. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  3. Chilly powder-1 tsp
  4. lemon juice-1 tsp
  5. Salt-to taste
  6. Pepper powder- ½ tsp
  7. Corn flour-1 tbsp
  8. All purpose flour-1 tbsp
  9. Oil-for frying
Other ingredients:
  1. Thinly chopped ginger-1 tbsp
  2. Thinly chopped garlic-1 tbsp
  3. Thinly chopped green chilly-2
  4. Curry leaves-2 spring
  5. Onion cubed-1large
  6. Capsicum cubed- 1 small
  7. Kashmiri chilly powder-1 tsp
  8. Soya sauce-1 tbsp
  9. Chilly sauce-1tbsp
  10. Tomato ketchup-1tbsp
  11. Sat-to taste
Preparation:
  • Marinate cleaned prawns with ingredients under marinating for 30 minutes.
  • Shallow fry it in oil for few minutes until both sides are golden in color (don’t fry too much; then the prawns will become hard).
  • Take it out in to a plate. Keep aside.
  • In the remaining oil, add ginger garlic, green chilly and curry leaves.
  • Saute until golden in color and nice aroma spreads.
  • Add onions cubed and sauté for a minute.
  • Add chilly powder and mix well for a minute.
  • Mix soya sauce, chilly sauce and tomato ketchup together in a bowl along with a table spoon of water.
  • Add capsicum and sauces in to the pan along with a pinch of salt.
  • Add fried prawns and mix well for a minute.
  • Note : if you want more gravy mix a table spoon of corn flour in ¼ cup of water and add it in the prawns chilly. Cook until gravy start to thickens.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the taste!!!
