Cheera Parippu Curry / Spinach and Dal Curry

Spinach and dal curry is a healthy and comfort food for rice and roti. Dal and spinach have lots of vitamins and try to include it in your daily diet. Here is the simple Kerala style dal Curry with spinach.

Ingredients:
  1. Spinach- a bunch
  2. Toor dal- ½ cup
  3. Oil-1tbsp
  4. Mustard seeds-1tsp
  5. Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
  6. Fenugreek – 1/4tsp
  7. Dry red chilly-2 nos
  8. Curry leaves-2 string
  9. Shallots-3nos
  10. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  11. Chilly powder- ½ tsp
  12. Asafetida powder / hing- a pinch
  13. Tomato-1small
  14. Salt-to taste
  15. Water
Preparation:
  • Wash and soak dal in water for 3 hours.
  • Drain and cook it with salt, turmeric powder, chilly powder and tomato pieces with enogh water.
  • Cook until daal gets cooked and mashed well.
  • Add spinch in to it and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Switch off the flame and do seasoning.
  • Heat oil in another pan; splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add cumin seeds, fenugreek and dry red chilly.
  • Add shallots and curry leaves.
  • Sauté until shallots get brown in color.
  • Switch off the flame and add hing powder.
  • Add it in to the curry.
