Baklava Is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and held together with sugar syrup or honey. It is a Middle East Special sweet. It is simple easy to make, as the Baklava filo is available in all leading supermarkets.
  1. Phyllo Dough- 12 sheets
  2. Chopped nuts- ¾ cup (walnut, almond and cashew)
  3. Chopped pistachio- ¼ cup
  4. Butter- 3 tbsp
  5. Sugar syrup- ½ cup ( ¼ cup sugar + ¼ cup water +  ½ tsp lemon juice + saffron threads)
  • Unwrap the phyllo dough carefully and separate them as three layers come together.
  • Brush melted butter on top.
  • Now add a table spoon of crushed nuts mix on one side of the phyllo on length wise.
  • Fold it three times and add another tablespoon of nuts at the end of folding as shown in the picture.
  • Fold it again and add another teaspoon of crushed nuts; fold it completely.
  •  Place it in to butter greased baking tray as the folding end touches the bottom.
  • In such a way, make the remaining three rolls and arrange it on the baking tray.
  • Brush butter on top of it evenly.
  • Run a knife through the baking tray and cut  the rolls in to small roll sized pieces.
  • Add some crushed pistachio on top of each roll.
  • Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degree for 20-25 minutes until the top gets a nice golden in color.
  • Mean while make the sugar syrup.
  • Boil all the ingredients for few minutes until one string consistency is reached.
  • Allow it to cool a bit (keep it hot but not in the boiling temperature)
  • Pour the hot syrup over the baked baklava.
  • Allow it to cools down completely.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the melting crispiness !!!
