Meen Peera / Meen Pattichathu:

Meen peera / fish thoran is a simply delicious side dish for rice. This typical Kerala dish is easy to cook and taste great. Fish like Anchovies and some other small fishes (netholi, podi meen) are also used for making meen peera.

  1. Cleaned sardines- 500gm
  2. Green chilly-4 nos
  3. Shallots slicerd-5nos
  4. Ginger chopped thinly-1tbsp
  5. Garlic chopped thinly-1tbsp
  6. Grated coconut- 1 cup
  7. Kudumpuli / black kokum-2 pieces
  8. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  9. Salt-to taste
  10. Curry leaves-3 string
  11. Coconut oil-3tbsp
  • Take an earthenware pot and mixsardines with salt and turmeric powder.
  • Soak the kokum pieces in water for 15 minutes and then drain it and add it in to sardines.
  • Add all other ingredients and give a gentle mix.
  • Cover the pot and cook on low-medium flame for about 15 minutes or the fish pieces get cooked but not break.
  • Give gentle stir on intervals of cooking.
  • When it is done, remove the kokum pieces from it and serve hot.
