Hariyali Chicken Curry

Hariyali chicken curry is a popular South Indian chicken curry that goes well with any type of roti or bread. There is not much more spices in the curry and the flavor comes from green leaves. Increase the amount of greens if you want your curry to be more greenish.

  1. Chicken- ½ kg
  2. Spring onion chopped- ¼ cup
  3. Coriander leaves chopped- ¼ cup
  4. Mint leaves chopped- ¼ cup
  5. Thick curd / yoghurt- ½ cup
  6. Green chilly-5nos (or more)
  7. Cumin powder- ½ tsp
  8. Garam masala- ¼ tsp
  9. Salt-to taste
  10. Shallots-2nos
  11. Ginger garlic paste-1tbsp
  12. Oil-3tbsp
  • In a blender add coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chillies and spring onions.
  • Blend it in to a fine paste by adding little water.
  • In a heated pan, add oil.
  • Add ginger garlic paste in to the oil and saute until raw smell goes off.
  • Add chicken pieces in to it and mix well.
  • Saute for 5 minutes.
  • After that, add grinder green paste, cumin powder, garam masala and salt.
  • After 5 minutes, add beaten curd and mix well.
  • Add little hot water if you need more curry. (It tastes well without adding water)
  • Cover cooks it for 15-20 minutes (stir occasionally) until chicken pieces are cooked well and the oil floats on the surface of the curry.
  • NOTE:You can add little fresh cream or thick coconut milk at the last to enhance the taste, if you wish to do so.
  • Season the curry with fried shallots.
