Meen Ada / Steamed fish Pancake

 
 Meen ada / meen pathiri / steamed fish pancake is a Malabar special recipe using fish masala and rice flour. It is an ideal snack to breakfast and teatime.

Ingredients:
  1. Fish pieces-4big(any fleshy fish like king fish)
  2. Roasted Rice flour-1cup
  3. Cumin seeds- ½  tsp
  4. Salt-to taste
  5. Boiling water-1 ¼ cup
  6. Onion chooped-1 big
  7. Ginger garlic crushed-2tsp
  8. Green chilly chopped-1
  9. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  10. Fish masala powder-1tsp
  11. Pepper powder- ½ tsp
  12. Curry leaves-few
  13. Oil-2tbsp
Preparation:
  • Cook the fish pieces with little turmeric powder and salt along with ¼ cup of water for few minutes or until all the water get absorbed and fish pieces are cooked.
  • Let it cool and mince the flesh of fish; keep aside.
  • In a bowl mix cumin seeds, salt and rice flour.
  • Add boiling water in to it and mix well with a spatula.
  • Knead well in to smooth dough.
  • In a pan heat oil and sauté onion until transparent.
  • Add curry leaves, ginger, and garlic and green chilly chopped.
  • Add all the powders and mix well.
  • Add minced fish in to it and mix well for 2 minutes.
  • Keep aside to cool completely.
  • With the rice dough make big lemon sized balls and roll it in to make thin crepes(pathiri) out of it.
  • Take a pathiri and put 1tbsp of fish masala on one side of it.
  • Fold and seal it with the other edge as seen in the picture.
  • Make all other crepes like this.
  • Steam cooks it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve hot and enjoy.
