Chettinad Chicken Curry


Chettinad chicken curry is one most popular chicken curry in Chettinad style. It is a spicy curry with wonderful aroma and taste.

Ingredients for marinating:
  1. Chicken- ½ kg
  2. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  3. Pepper powder- ½ tsp
  4. Lemon juice- ½ tsp
  5. Garam masala- ¼ tsp
  6. Salt-to taste
Ingredients for the curry:
  1. Oil-2tbsp
  2. Dry red chilly-1
  3. Curry leaves-1string
  4. Bay leaf-1
  5. Onion chopped-2
  6. Tomato chopped-2
  7. Ginger garlic and green chilly paste- 3tsp
  8. Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  9. Red chilly powder-1tsp
  10. Kashmiri chilly powder-1tsp
  11. Cumin powder- ¼ tsp
  12. Garam masala-1tsp
  13. Salt-to taste
  14. Cashew nut – 6nos (or poppy seeds)
  15. Coriander leaves- few
  16. Mint leaves-few
Preparation:
  • Marinate the cleaned chicken pieces with ingredients under marinating.
  • Meanwhile prepare the gravy.
  • Heat oil in a pan; add dry red chilly, curry leaves and bay leaf.
  • Add onion and saute until transparent.
  • Add ginger, garlic and green chilly paste
  • Sauté until the raw smell goes off.
  • In a simmer flame add all the powders one by one and mix well.
  • Add tomato in to it and sauté until mashed well.
  • Add marinated chicken pieces along with ¼ cup of hot water.
  • Cook covered for 10 minutes and then, adds the coconut milk and cashew nut pasted.
  • Cook for another 10-15 minutes or until the chicken pieces are cooked well.
  • Switch off the flame, garnish with mint and coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with your favorite roti or rice.
