Chicken Mappas

Chicken mappas is a Easter special chicken curry that goes well with appam and palappam. It is a mildly spiced curry with the richness of coconut milk. You can use coconut oil instead of oil to get more flavor and taste.
  1. Chicken- ½ kg
  2. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  3. Pepper powder-1 tsp
  4. Lemon juice- ½ tsp
  5. Salt-to taste
  6. Ginger garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  7. Oil-2 tbsp
  8. Whole garam masala pieces- (cardamom 1 , clove 2, star anise-1, bay leaf-1, cinnamon- one small piece)
  9. Onion-2 nos
  10. Ginger garlic crushed-1 tbsp
  11. Green chilly-2 nos
  12. Tomato-1
  13. Coriander powder- 1 ½ tbsp
  14. Cumin powder- ¼ tsp
  15. Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  16. Salt-to taste
  17. Thin coconut milk- 1 cup
  18. Thick coconut milk- ¼ cup
  • Marinate chicken pieces with 2 to 6 ingredients  for 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan; add all the whole garam masala pieces.
  • Add onion thinly chopped and sauté until transparent.
  • Add ginger garlic crushed and green chilly; sauté for a minute.
  • Add coriander powder and garam masala.
  • Add marinated chicken pieces and sauté for 5 minutes.
  • Add tomato pieces (cut in to  4 or 6 cubes) and thin coconut milk.
  • Add little salt and cover cooks it for 15-20 minutes.
  • After that open the lid and add thick coconut milk.
  • Open cooks it for another 6-7 minutes until gravy starts thickens and oil floats on top.
  • Serve hot with the choice of your breakfast.
